A Zesty Winter

When compared to Spring, Summer, and Fall, the selection of seasonal produce in the Winter can seem a little drab. Luckily, citrus is in it’s peak season and can add a little zest (literally and figuratively) to almost anything.  From the zest to the juice to the fruit, it is one of winter’s healthiest and most versatile ingredients. I squeeze it into my water, add it to marinades, and whisk it into salad dressings.  Here are a few recipes that highlight citrus, and may even make this cold winter a little more vibrant!

Citrus Recipes

Citrus fruits like grapefruit and blood oranges are amazing salad ingredients.  They add sweetness, acidity, and color to any dish, and are the star of this fresh winter citrus salad with mint, pistachios, and goat cheese.

Citrus juice is also an essential component to many of my favorite dressings, sauces, and dips.  Try this lemony hummus and you will never buy store bought again!

Citrus also pairs perfectly with poultry and seafood.  Try this shrimp, grapefruit, and avocado salad or this herb and citrus roasted chicken.  Not only does the citrus brighten the flavor in these dishes, the acid also works on your meat and seafood to make it super tender.

These are just a few ideas of how to incorporate nutrient-packed citrus fruits into your diet this winter, but the possibilities are endless!
