Earth Day 2015

Earth Day is honored on April 22 every year.  It marks the anniversary of the modern environmental movement that began in 1970.  On this day and throughout the month of April, various environmental activities such as festivals and rallies are planned to raise awareness and support for environmental programs.

Help the Planet

One of the ways you can help our planet is by being a health-conscious consumer.  By choosing to eat locally grown food, you can improve your overall health AND the environment.  We all know that incorporating more fruits and vegetables in our diet is only beneficial.  Local food that has not traveled several hundred miles are more likely to be fresh and higher in nutritional value than regular produce sold at supermarkets.  As food gets transported, more fuel is released into the atmosphere.

Where to find local food:

Another way to help the environment is by reducing meat consumption.  The United Nation’s Food and Agriculture Organization estimates that the meat industry makes up one-fifth of the manmade greenhouse gas emissions worldwide.  You don’t have to a vegetarian to help our planet.  Even giving up meat once a week can have positive impact on the environment.
