May is Brain Tumor Awareness Month

Meals to Heal would like to recognize brain tumor awareness this May.  It is critical that we spread awareness about the prevalence, diagnosis, and the various forms of treatment for brain tumor.  It is also an opportunity for patients, survivors, and caregivers to connect with others and share their stories and advice.

Although brain cancer is rare, it is one of the most deadly types of cancer.  There are more than 120 types of brain tumors and they have different impact on each individual.  Someone with a brain tumor may experience these symptoms:

  • Headaches
  • Seizures
  • Sensory and motor loss
  • Deep venous thrombosis
  • Hearing loss
  • Vision loss
  • Fatigue
  • Depression
  • Behavioral/cognitive changes
  • Endocrine dysfunction

Below is an infographic from the National Brain Tumor Society highlighting the prevalence of brain tumors in the US.

So what can you do?

  • There are various community events occurring in your neighborhood throughout May.  Check out the list of events here.
  • You can also raise funds online through CareCampaign.  You can create a personalized CareCampaign to raise funds for research, patient or caregiver programs. Or, you can find and support someone else’s campaign by donating.

For more information, visit the American Brain Tumor Association.
