For this post I wanted to tell you the story behind Meals to Heal.  The story starts ten years ago when I had my first experience with the cancer diagnosis of a dear friend.  Up until this time I had not really experienced cancer first hand.  Then a number of other close friends and family also developed cancer.  The disease and its treatment resulted in nutritional problems for them all.   And, in addition, it caused a debilitating fatigue that left both patient and caregiver unable to prepare and enjoy healthy, nutritious meals for themselves or their loved ones.

My “life changing moment” occurred more recently when I experienced these same struggles again with my dear friend Eric, who had a glioma of the brain stem.  The cancer and its treatment caused severe nutritional issues and rendered him unable to consume solid foods.  As his disease progressed, these issues became more extreme and difficult.  His mother worked tirelessly to prepare meals that he liked and was able to eat.  This was not an easy task.  As happens with many people with cancer, his taste buds changes, mouth sores developed, and, in the end, he had difficulty swallowing.  The diagnosis and treatment also resulted in nutritional issues and struggles for his entire family as they tried to cope with the illness of a family member and the related stress.  Eric unfortunately lost his battle.   I vowed after that experience to dedicate myself to helping people with cancer and their loved ones receive access to healthy nutritious meals, safe evidence based nutrition information and expert nutritional counseling.

The result of this commitment is Meals to Heal.   We are dedicated to making the lives of cancer patients and their caregivers easier and less stressful by providing solutions that relieve them of the significant time and energy necessary to ensure proper nutrition for themselves and their loved ones.  Everyone at Meals to Heal is dedicated to this mission.  We look forward to serving you and to being your resource for cancer nutrition during and after your treatment or the treatment of a loved one.
